GUERRILLA / THE ARGENTINE (2008)

DIRECTOR :
Steven Soderbergh
WRITERS : Peter Buchman, Steven Soderbergh, Ben Van Der Veen
SHOOTING LOCATIONS : La Mancha (Spain), Madrid (Spain), New York
RELEASE DATE : n/a

CAST :
Benicio Del Toro ... Ernesto 'Che' Guevara de la Serna
Yul Vazquez ... Alejandro
Franka Potente ... Tamara Bunke

SYNOPSIS : This film will follow the revolutionary career of Che Guevara (Del Toro), from his roots as an Argentina doctor, to Cuba where he led the efforts to overthrow Batista, and later, to Bolivia, where he was eventually killed.

Franka plays Tamara Bunke (a.k.a. Tania the Guerilla), a communist revolutionary, who was the only woman to fight along Che Guevara. Bunke was killed by Bolivian soldiers during an ambuscade at Vado del Yeso, on August 31 1967.

Originally, Terrence Malick was to direct, but the project ended to Steven Soderbergh. Franka confessed she couldn't help but be disappointed about not working with Malick: "“because as much as I admire Steven Soderbergh’s work, Terrence Malick doesn’t work that often and he’s a milestone of American film history to me. Steven does like one movie a year so there’s a possibility we’d work together again while with Terrence there are not so many possibilities.”
